I Saw Men As Trees: A Personal Testimony
From being blind, to seeing men as trees, to seeing every man clearly is something I can clearly relate to. In fact, when I read the words from Mark, at the bottom of this post, I said, “That’s me!” I was complexed, confused, and somewhat pricked in the conscience. But, I wasn’t sure how to respond to it so I went right on seeing people as trees, until Christ opened my eyes at the Cross. I remember when I wasn’t even able to see men as trees! I was absorbed into my own worldly activities and enjoying the entertainments on this earth. I was totally blind to the needs of others. Then, I began to see people as trees! Christ opens eyes to give sight! Trees need their roots watered to absorb through the branches to give life to the fruitfulness in all they do. I began to see that people need to be watered with caring, kindness, and love. I wanted to be attentive to their emotional, mental, and physical welfare by being gracious. I wanted to water their need for a safe and secure environment by being a meek and gentle person. I wanted to water their roots with tolerance, acceptance, love, and inclusion. I wanted to water their need for self-esteem and respect. I wanted to support their desire to be whatever they wanted to be. I was sincerely rejoicing because I could see men as trees! Christ opens eyes to give sight!
I still wasn’t seeing clearly! If the solution to the human nature is as easy as watering natural needs, then why is there so much global turmoil and turbulence?! There is something I wasn’t seeing, I wasn’t seeing men clearly. When I was seeing human nature I failed to see the sin nature. But, I do see that the powers of this world all claim to be working towards meeting the health, safety, social, esteem, and self-actualization needs of the people of the world. BUT, the world seems to be getting worse and not better. Health care is a mess as people increasingly suffer mental and emotional abuse with sky-rocketing addictions. There is no safety in the world as violence, protests, and riots continue to be an ever increasing global concern. Global society is chaotic! Self-respect seems to be so high that respect for others is at horrid lows. And self-actualization amounts to becoming everything except for what God intended for us to be. I wasn’t totally blind because I could see men as trees who needed nourishment to grow properly, but I wasn’t seeing men clearly enough to know what their real nourishment needs to be. Then, God touched my eyes again, this time I was able to see clearly! Humanity has a problem, that problem is sin and the Cross of Christ is the nourishing Water of Life. Christ opens eyes to give sight!
There is no amount of watering and planting that will be helpful unless our eyes are opened to see men clearly! Because of the fall of Adam, we have become engrossed into a world of sin that has been separated from God. Health care, increased security forces, social tolerance, ego building, and acceptance of becoming whatever it is you want to become does not reconcile us to the Spirit of God! Only by making the nature of sin of no effect, to be inactive and dormant to do nothing through us, will we ever be able to see men clearly. I see that now! Christ opens eyes to give sight. When I accepted what Christ did for me at the Cross, I began to see men clearly. As Christ made my sin nature inactive, I began to see the soul and spirit of people who had a void only God can fill. The Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus sets us free from sin and death. The Water of Life nourishes us through the Cross of Christ, to enable us to blossom with the Fruit of the Holy Ghost…..worldly watering will not produce Godly Fruit. From the Cross, Christ opens eyes to give sight!
We are the Temple of God! I was blind to that, and Satan filled my heart and mind with spiritual darkness to totally destroy my opportunity to reconcile the Temple back to God. I now see that when I see myself as a tree, then nourishment of the soul and spirit by the means of this world will not invite the Holy Ghost to dwell within the Temple. When the Holy Ghost is in me, I see and understand clearly my need for the infilling of the Fruit of God’s Spirit. Only when I see myself clearly, as being engrossed into a fallen sinful state, will I be able to see clearly that I need to accept what Christ did for me on the Cross. That acceptance invites Christ into my heart and mind while casting out the ways of the world, the flesh, and Satan. Satan thought he owned my soul and spirit when I was blind, then he tried to get me to buy into a humanistic way of life when I saw men as trees, but when I saw men clearly through Christ Jesus, Satan had to flee!
“And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.”
